    This Center is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services.  It’s web page contains information specifically on developmental disabilities which can be found at cdc.gov/ncbddd/dd/ .

    In addition, the site contains information on specific disabilities like autism and cerebral palsy.  They also have an Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network (ADDM) which is found at cdc.gov/ncbddd/autism/addm.htm .

  • DC Department of Health
    This department provides many health related services for DC residents including health care services for the uninsured, programs for mothers and children and assistance with accessing immunizations doh.dc.gov
  • DC Department of Health Care Finance
    This department provides information on health insurance, Medicaid, Alliance and application for these programs. 
  • DC Department of Behavioral Health
    This department supports residents with links to services, supports and resources for mental health. The Access Help line is 1888-WE-HELP and available through this link

Physical Activity and Nutrition

Physical Activity and Sport for People with Disabilities: Symposium and Strategic Planning
The Athletic Equity Symposium held in June 2011brought together diverse academic, administrative, organization, and education experts as well as advocates and athletes with disabilities to discuss policy issues and changes that can be made at the national, state and local levels to ensure full participation of children, youth and young adults in sports and physical activity. A strategic plan was created to accomplishing the goal of full participation in sports and physical activity. Click here to read these proceedings and the strategic plan from the meeting. Move Experience Engage
An exciting new publication that is a calendar of 365 activities designed to be used by individuals providing services to adults with developmental disabilities in community-based residential facilities.  It includes a variety of fun and engaging activities like exercises, cooking and community activities that will help promote health and a sense of well being. A list of exercises and photographs illustrating the exercises is also included.

Family Food and Fitness
A family guide that has information about healthy eating, recipes, and activities. For families with young children of all abilities.
This guide provides families with information about healthy eating and active lifestyles. It is our hope that families will use this knowledge to help them buy fresh food, prepare nutritious meals, and have fun being active. We encourage families to include their children while they shop for food, prepare meals, and cook. Children who participate in cooking enjoy eating and make healthier food choices.
