A Visit to the Doctor: We can do better
Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development teamed up with Georgetown University Medical School students to collaborate with Project ACTION!, a self-advocacy coalition for people with developmental disabilities across Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. The trio developed a video to portray the challenges people with disabilities face when seeking and receiving medical care in a health care facility.
Project ACTION! members shared real-life experience and concerns about how they would like to be treated. By the end of this session the medical students were exposed to the health disparities people with intellectual and developmental disabilities often face.
